ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday has directed has directed to take steps on war footing for provision of food and water in Tharparkar District.

A three member bench headed by CJP Nisar resumed hearing in a case pertaining to deaths of infants in Tharparkar due to malnutrition.

During the hearing chief justice directed for immediate steps in order to improve the situation in the district.

“All the resources should be utilized to check the mortality rate of infants,” the CJP observed.

He said all the hospitals in Thar should be equipped with all necessary facilities.

He directed concerned authority to provide well equipped facilities in all hospitals of Thar.

The court sought a detailed report from Sindh government on Thar situation in three weeks time.

It must be noted thatlatest deaths in Tharparkar have taken the October death toll to 14, and 490 in totality. The deaths reported by the local health department have said to be caused by malnutrition and other diseases in the area.

Every year 1,500 children die due to malnutrition, infections and lack of proper medical facilities in the remote region says health department Sindh.
