Karachi: Prime Minister Imran Khans sister Aleema Khan owns expensive property in the United States.
“The News” investigative reporter revealed that Aleema Khan had not declared her American property till 2017.
He said that Aleema Khan owns Rs260 million worth of property in the heart of US state of New Jersey. The property, with the address 154 Sixth Street, Hoboken, New Jersey 07030, was bought in 2004 and is still owned by her.
The deed of the property read that it was bought for $0.758 million on August 5, 2004 with the Book 7355 having residential class. The original Book Deed of Property, exclusively obtained by this correspondent, revealed that Aleema Khan bought this property in 2004 with a 25% partnership of her friend Samina Sultana in the United States. The property was purchased from Keith Prebola who bought this property in 1999, revealed the 36-page Property Book. She had not disclosed it to the tax authorities till November 12, 2017. A property record updated in January 2018 shows Shahrez Khan as contact person for the property with his contact number. Shahrez is the elder son of Aleema Khan and her husband Sohail Ameer Khan. Though Aleema Khan purchased these luxurious properties in different countries, she never declared them in her tax returns in Pakistan at the time of purchase, and used to pay nominal taxes. For instance she paid only Rs107,960 in tax year ending June 30, 2011, Rs188,000 in tax year 2012, Rs140,000 in 2013, Rs158,900 in 2014, Rs186,620 in 2015, Rs130,794 in 2016 and so on.
Iftikhar Durrani, special assistant to Prime Minister, said that the prime minister was not responsible for the private affairs of his siblings, as they were responsible for their own acts.
Earlier, Chief of Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of Aleema’s property in Dubai on November 28.
Aleema paid 25 per cent of the total estimated amount of her luxurious flat, The Lofts East-1406, in taxes and 25 per cent fine charges, officials had said. The prime ministers sister was slapped with a double penalty (taxes and fine) because she did not disclose the said property worth around Rs74 million.
The said luxurious flat was located in the heart of Dubai, adjacent to Burj Khalifa, the most expensive area in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), added the officials.
Aleema, in her affidavit submitted with FIA team, stated: The Lofts East:1460 was paid for from funds generated from my business dealings overseas. Further, I have already disposed of my property and have also informed the FBR about the purchase and sale of the said property.
On October 27, FIA had submitted in the Supreme Court the details of 44 close relatives of prominent political personalities who owned properties in the UAE.
