ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi on Thursday removed Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui as a judge of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on recommendation of the Supreme Judicial Council.
A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Law in this regard.
The decision was taken under Article 209(5) on the SJCs recommendation under Article 209(6) read with Article 48(1) of the Constitution, read a notification.
Earlier today, Supreme Judicial Council recommended removal of Islamabad High Court judge Justice Shaukat Siddiqui from his office.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court in an address to Rawalpindi Bar Association on July 21st, had claimed that certain quarters were interfering in the working of the higher judiciary.
I was told that if I pass judgments on their directives then the references against me will be withdrawn, he said, adding that, I was also assured that I will be made the chief justice of Pakistan in September and not even November.
On the very same date, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar affirmed that the judiciary is working independently and free from any pressure.
On July 22nd,the Inter Service Public Relation(ISPR) requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan to initiate actions over the allegations hurled by the honorable Islamabad High Court judge in connection with manipulation of Judiciary by Countrys premier agency (ISI).
The army media wing also requested the top court to check the veracity of allegations and then take actions accordingly, the statement further reads out.
The Supreme Judicial Council on July 31 served a show cause noticeto Justice Siddiqui, who later submitted his replies before the council.
