KARACHI: A key witness in Baldia town factory fire case revealed that the factory was burnt over owners unwillingness to pay extortion money to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

According to details, one of the factory workers and prime suspect appeared before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) and recorded his statement that the factory was set ablaze upon the directions of MQM leadership following owners refusal to pay extortion money.

The employee also revealed that they made a request to MQMs Zubair alias Charya to reduced the extortion amount by Rs10 million which was refused and they insisted to be paid an amount of Rs200 million.

Moreover, he revealed that the prime accused in the case Zubair alias Chariya threatened them of dire consequences in case of their failure to pay extortion amount.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least 250 factory workers were burnt to death at a garment factory in Baldia town on September 11, 2012.
