NEW DELHI: Former Indian Interior Minister and Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Thursday was arrested under the charges of money laundering.

According to Indian media, the former minister was arrested after his protective bail was disposed of by New Delhi High Court in a case pertaining to INX Media Scam.

The 73 years old former minister is accused of receiving kickbacks and bribes as a Finance Minister back in 2007 in foreign investments of INX groups foreign investments. However, P.Chidambaram has denied the imposed charges.

He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from his residence in New Delhi.

A day earlier, the former minister filed a plea to place his case on early hearing after the rejection of his protective bail which was rejected by the court.
