KARACHI: A massive protest is being held against the brutal murder of nationalist leader Irshad Ranjhani on Karasaz road.
The protest was attended by a large number of politicians, rights activists, journalists and students form across the province.
Protesters were chanting slogans against the brutal murder of slain Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST) leader.
The protesters demanded a free and fair trial of the brutal murder of Irshad Ranjhani.
They also demanded to hang the UC Chairman Raheem Shah who killed Irshad Ranjhani.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah on Saturday took notice of the brutal murder of Jeay Sindh Tehreek leader Irshad Ranjhani and ordered judicial inquiry into the killing.
Ranjhani was allegedly shot dead by a Union Council chairman in Bhains Colony neighbourhood on Thursday. The victim remained lying on the road with bullet wounds for at least one hour before breathing his last.
Taking the notice, CM Murad had sought the complete report of incident from Inspector General Sindh Police.
Raheem Shah, the local UC chairman, claimed that he opened fire on Irshad Ranjhani, who was later identified as president of Jeay Sindh Tehreeks (JST) Karachi chapter, while foiling a robbery attempt.
However, according to family sources, Ranjhani had gone missing on Tuesday and yesterday (Thursday) his body was handed over to them.
The brother of the slain nationalist leader said that Ranjhani had left for Hyderabad on Tuesday and since then he was out of contact with the family. He alleged that the UC chairman was used by someone else to kill his brother, saying Ranjhani was not a criminal but a political activist.
Ranjhanis mother died of shock when his body was brought at home.
According to eye witnesses, Ranjhani sustained bullet wounds and remained on the road for at least an hour in injured condition before shifting him to police station instead of hospital. Police came at the scene very late and surprisingly took the injured to police station first and later referred to hospital but Ranjhani breathed his last before reaching the medical facility, they added.
Ranjhanis family has demanded of Sindh Chief Minster Syed Murad Ali Shah and IGP to arrest the killers.
Meanwhile, police said the case has been registered against four unknown persons under Section 393/34 of PPC.
Members of the civil society have taken to social media, using the hashtag #JusticeForIrshadRanjhani and posting videos showing the UC chairman shooting Ranjhani in front of a crowd.
Protesters staged a demonstration outside the KPC on Friday and demanded to register a first investigation report against Rahim, the Shah Latif station house officer and the Bin Qasim Town deputy superintendent of police.
