ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday cancelled the federal government’s notification to replace Punjab police chief Tahir Khan with Amjad Javed Saleem.

According to details, ECP has also written to the secretary establishment to halt the transfer.

The notification was cancelled after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Raza took notice of federal government’s decision to replace Punjab police chief Tahir Khan.

The ECP had barred the federal government from making appointments and transfers in the wake of October, 14 by-polls.

Earlier in a day, Amjad Javed Saleemi was appointed as Inspector General of Punjab police by federal government.

Amjad Javed Saleemi previously served in the Sindh province during interim government as an Inspector General of Police.
