LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) led federal government on Saturday decided to change the name of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to sources, a summary was moved before the federal cabinet seeking to change the name of FBR to Pakistan Revenue Authority on October 3.

Meanwhile, besides changing the name, the federal government is also looking to amend the structure of the taxation authority and under the new structure there will be one chairman and two deputy chairmen will be appointed in the PRA. However, one deputy chairman will be of IRS while the second will be looking the affairs of Customs.

On the other hand, the federal government has decided to send 11,000 employees of the FBR to surplus pool out of a total of 22,000 which has created unrest among staffers.

The employees have made it clear that any such move by the government will be opposed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Central Board of Revenue was formed in 1979 while its name was changed to FBR in 2007.
