ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Tuesday said that the court would announce its verdict on Judge Arshad Malik video scandal case in the next two-three days.
A three-member bench of the SC headed by CJP Asif Saeed Khosa heard the case today. Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Basheer Memon and Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan appeared before the court.
As the hearing went underway, the attorney general told the court that Judge Arshad Malik was posted to the accountability court on March 13, 2018. To which, the chief justice asked if the person who had appointed the said judge had come forward. At which, the attorney general responded to the court by saying no.
CJP then in his remarks said that Nasir Janjua has claimed that he had appointed Judge Arshad Malik, by adding that this meant that after the Panama Papers verdict, the government at the time had appointed the judge.
Justice Azmat Saeed of the SC in his remarks asked that if the forensic audit of the suspected video could be conducted. At this, DG FIA responded that they do not have the video. To which, Justice Azmat Saeed by expressing anger said that apart from FIA this video was available to the entire nation and the court and countrymen were asking that if the video was real.
DG FIA then assured the court that they will carry out the forensic audit of the video.
CJP Justice Khosa in his remarks said that the FIA was given three weeks time to complete the investigation and the report was regarding two videos — one which was revealed in the Maryam Nawazs press conference and which was used to blackmail the judge.
The chief justice in his remarks said that the video would be of use for the release of incarcerated premier Nawaz Sharif when a petition is filed, by adding that it remained to be seen if a forensic audit of the video could be carried and if this was possible for a video of YouTube.
Justice Umar Atta Bandial in his remarks said that those who had fabricated this story were now disassociating themselves from it.
The CJP then said that that if this video was proven to be real it could be very effective. He said that Judge Arshad Malik has a past and could be blackmailed by anyone.
The attorney general said that it would be difficult to prove this video to be authentic, to which the chief justice in his remarks said that even the said judge had confessed to the objectionable video, but how will the authenticity of the video shown in the press conference be proven.
On the other hand, the FIAs report was presented in the court which also included statements of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.
DG FIA Basheer Memon informed the court that when Maryam Nawaz was asked about the video that where she received this from, she responded that she did not know who made the video and received it from a party worker. She also told during the probe that the video was sent from a phone which did not have a SIM card.
The CJP then stated that the court will announce its verdict in the next two to three days and adjourned the hearing of the case.
