ISLAMABAD: Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Friday sworn in as the 26th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to Justice Asif Saeed Khosa in an impressive ceremony attended by senior civil and military leadership.

Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will remain in the office for 337 days before retirement later this year.

Those attended the ceremony included Premier Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of the Air Staff Aasim Zaheer, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, and several other members of the federal cabinet.

Justice Khosa was among those few judges who refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) when former military dictator Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency on November 7, 2007.

Justice Khosa has replaced outgoing CJP Justice Nisar.
