THARPARKAR: Five more children died on Tuesday due to malnutrition within the past 24 hours in Tharparkar, Sindh as the child death toll continues to climb.
According to sources, the death of these children has raised the death toll to 422 for the past six months in the drought-hit Tharparkar region. Sources further informed that more than 70 children are still under treatment at Civil Hospital in Mithi.
Every year 1,500 children die due to malnutrition, infections and lack of proper medical facilities in the remote region.
A report released by the United Nations Children Fund last year stated that Pakistan is among countries with the highest infant mortality rates, with 22 infants dying before turning one month old.
