WEB Desk: The 21st death anniversary of legendary modern Urdu poet Obaidullah Aleem was being observed today (Saturday) by his followers in Pakistan and across the world.

Obaidullah Aleem was born in 1939 in Bhopal city of India but was later migrated to Pakistan after partition and settled in Karachi where he remained for the rest of his life.

He started his career as a producer in Radio Pakistan.

Aleems first poetry book was Chaand Chehra Sitara Ankhain which was published in 1978.

Obaid rose to prominence with his popular Urdu poem Khursheed Misaal Shakhs written in 1982.

His second poetry book Viran Saray Ka Diya was published in 1986.

One of his books of poetry received the highest award in literature in Pakistan Adamji Prize.

Aleem died from cardiac arrest, following a second heart attack on 18 May 1998.
