LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi released from Kot Lakhpat jail here on Saturday.

Earlier on April 11, Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered to release the detained Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Hanif Abbasi who was detained following a conviction in ephedrine case from an anti-narcotics court case.

According to details, a two-member bench of the LHC headed by Justice Alia Neelum heard the case pertaining to the illegal allocation of ephedrine.

The former PML-N lawmaker was awarded a life sentence.

However, the PML-N leader filed a petition in LHC seeking to cancel the verdict of the anti-narcotics court.

The petitioner in his petition by challenging the verdict had said that various important legal points were neglected and he was sentenced on political grounds.

The court after hearing arguments by both parties cancelled the life sentence awarded to the PML-N leader.

LHC has also ordered to release seven other suspects of the case with immediate effect.

Justice Alia Neelum has also ordered to submit surety bonds to the PML-N leader.

It is pertinent to mention here that a case was registered by Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) officials under the 9-C act of the PPC in July 2012.
