WEB DESK: Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, recipient of Nishan-i-Haider is being remembered on his 48th death anniversary today (today).
Rashid Minhas was born on February 17, 1951, in Karachi.
Minhas is the youngest recipient of Pakistans gallantry award Nishan-e-Haider. He was the first recipient of the highest military award of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
He embraced martyrdom after he deliberately forced his plane to crash after he lost control to it in mid-air clash with his flight instructor Mati-ur-Rehman.
Rehman, a black sheep of the countrys air force wanted to divert the plane towards India but his bid was foiled by a Rashid Minhas.
Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas was martyred on August 20, 1971, near Thatta.
