KARACHI: In a bizarre development, it has been revealed that anti-corruption department Sukkur’s deputy director Munir Khurho despite registering a case on investigation officer Muhammad Sanwal Ghoto’s recommendation has binned a graft reference, Sindh Post reported on Monday.
According to documents obtained by Sindh Post, investigation officer has recommended registering an FIR against the officials of the Irrigation Department for causing a loss to the national exchequer of Rs250 million by false practices and financial irregularities.
The investigation officer collected proofs and findings against the officials by conducting a raid along with a magistrate and requested to file an FIR into the matter.
The officials and contractors who were involved in the scam were former XENs Abid Hussain Naich, Zahid Qureshi, M Younus Domki, M Ali, EXENs Shaukat Ali, Aziz Ur Rehman, Ali Murad Mangi, Ghulam Najaf, Agha Faiz, Feroz Uddin Domki, Anwar Soomro, Divisional Accountant Riaz Kamboh, Contractors Abdul Hafeez & Company, Jan Muhammad & Brothers, Abdul Rasheed Kalwar and Zafar Ullah Mahar.
Senior Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Mukhtiar Lashari was also part of the raid in which they confiscated fake bills, cheques and other record related to the scam.
According to a document obtained by Sindh Post, the officials of Irrigation Department were responsible for causing a loss of Rs250 million to the national exchequer.
However, anti-corruption department’s deputy director Munir Khurho has rejected the recommendations of registering a case against the officials of Irrigation Department in a letter written to a senior official and made a request to shut the inquiry immediately.
On the other hand, the director of the anti-corruption department Fiaz Abbasi has handed over the report of Munir Khuhro to a technical officer for a further probe.
The director has said that the recommendations will be reviewed technically and the decision will be made on merit.
