ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) of Pakistan on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to halt its proceedings against the Senior Supreme Court Judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

In a letter written to SJC, SCBA stated that the petitioner is the apex bar association of Pakistan representing all the lawyers practicing before Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The letter further said, “It plays an indispensable role in the administration of justice and has always led efforts to strengthen judicial independence and to promote rule of law and constitutional supremacy in Pakistan.”

“Declare that special reference No. 1 of 2019 and Reference No. 427 of 2019 are filled for collateral purposes and mala fide in law and fact and without legal basis and hence non-est,” it added.

“Declare that any proceedings in relation thereto by the SJC in relation to the same are void, discriminatory and Corum non-judice,” it further added.

“Restrain the SJC from proceeding further in the said references,” it stressed.

“Any other relief as may be appropriate,” it concluded.

Earlier, Law ministry had submitted a plea to SJC for commencing an inquiry against few senior judges of the country’s judiciary for possessing assets abroad which haven’t been mentioned in the asset declaration forms submitted by them.
