WEB Desk: The 96th birth anniversary of legendary Sindhi poet Shaikh Ayaz is being celebrated today across the province.

Ayaz, born on 2nd March 1923 in Shikarpuer, was a renowned poet, scholar, writer and academicianin Sindh.

Ayaz rose to prominence after publishing his poetic compilation ‘Bhanwar Bharee Aakash’ (Whirlpools in the skies) which was published in 1963. His translations of the poetic compilations of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s ‘Shah Jo Risalo’ made him even popular.

However, Ayaz wrote more than 50 books and also served on important posts and remained a vice chancellor of Sindh University.

Shaikh Ayaz died in December 1977 at the age of 74.
