KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday chaired a meeting for establishing NED university’s campus in Tharparkar.
As per details, it was decided in the meeting that Thar Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) will be established in the region which will start students enrollment from this year.
During the meeting, NEDs vice-chancellor Dr Sarosh Lodhi briefed the chief minister about establishing the campus of his university and degrees of bachelors, masters and Ph.D. will be given in 18 fields.
On this occasion, Sindh CM said, “The locals will be preferred for various teaching and non-teaching staff of the varsity while top-level staff will be hired so the university can produce skilled professionals.”
“Tharparkar is the country’s future and establishing such state of the art university is a milestone in its development,” he added.
“Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) promised to establish NEDs campus in Thar and this will mark the completion of his promise,” he further added.
“Shaheed Mohtarmas soul will be happy with this important milestone,” insisted Murad.
“The region will produce as much as 20,000 MWs of electricity and the enhancement of economic activity will take this university to new heights,” said the chief minister.
He also announced to allot land of 300 acres for the university, the establishment of an industrial park in the campus, scholarships for students and top-quality facilities for the faculty.
