JAMSHORO: Sindh University Teachers Association (SUTA) on Saturday strongly condemned the statement issued by the varsitys Public Relations Officer (PRO) over the misplacement of equipment from the campus.

As per details, SUTA representative Dr Arfana Mallah in a statement criticized varsitys PRO for blaming a teacher and former director of the plant sciences department for misplacing department.

She said that according to officers of the university, by adding that the said equipment was placed in the store in their presence and the room was sealed by the dean of the faculty.

Arfana Mallah termed it as a malicious campaign against the teacher to put the harassment case under the carpet as the said equipment was handed over to the officials.

The teachers body also condemned the death of a university driver who died due to a sudden heart attack after hearing the news that he has been fired from the university.

SUTA also blamed the varsitys VC and affirmed their support behind the teacher named Rabia Asma Memon.

Earlier on May 14, Secretary Boards and Universities of Sindh wrote a letter to the Ombudsman, for Protection against Harassment of Women at Work Place, Government of Sindh for taking the due legal action against Prof Dr. Abdul Jabbar Pirzada for harassing several female students of the Sindh University on a complaint forwarded by Dr. Rabia Asma Memon.

The secretary said in the letter: I am directed to enclose herewith a copy of letter No. IPS-245/2019, dated 05.05.2019 received from Prof: Dr. Rabia Asma Memon, Director Institute of Plant Sciences, the University of Sindh regarding a complaint of harassment from many girl students against Dr. Abdul Jabbar Pirzada, Professor of Institute of Plant Sciences, University of Sindh.

It is, therefore, requested to kindly take necessary action in the matter as per rules under intimation to this Department, the notification reads.

Earlier on May 8, another harassment case was surfaced in the University of Sindh Jamshoro.

An alleged victim of the sexual harassment has lodged a formal complaint against a professor named Abdul Jabbar Pirzado who works at the Botany Department of the university.

It is pertinent to mention here that since the assumption of Dr. Burfat as Vice-Chancellor of the varsity several harassment cases were surfaced in the campus and few female students have already committed suicide. Naila Rind was one among those unfortunate students.
