THARPARKAR: At least two more infants in Mithi have lost their lives as a result of an outbreak of viral diseases amidst a malnutrition crisis, Sindhpost reported on Saturday.

According to the sources, the death of these children has raised the death toll to 16 for this month and 217 for this year in Tharparkar. Sources further informed that 60 more malnutrition children are still under treatment at Civil Hospital in Mithi.

Every year 1,500 children die due to malnutrition, infections and lack of proper medical facilities in the remote region.

A report released by the United Nations Children Fund last year stated that Pakistan is among countries with the highest infant mortality rates, with 22 infants dying before turning one month old.
