KARACHI: Youm-e-Ashur was observed today (Tuesday) with traditional religious solemnity and fervour to commemorate the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and his companions at Karbala in 61AH some 14 centuries ago.
Every year, this day is observed on 10th of Muharram to commemorate the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions at Karbala to uphold the truth.
Ulema and Zakireen highlighted the bright and candid teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his great companions.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident during mourning processions.
It is pertinent to note here that people belonging to other schools of thought also participated in the mourning processions to express complete solidarity.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi have stressed upon promoting unity, tolerance and religious harmony in their messages on the advent of the holy month of Muharram.
The premier and the president laid stress upon collective efforts towards the progress and prosperity of the country by leaving aside petty regional, sectarian and ethnic hatred and prejudices.
In Karachi, police, Rangers, ladies and gents scouts were deployed at the route of the main procession.
Sabeels (stalls for refreshment drinks) were set up as per years old tradition.
In Lahore, Majalis have been planned while processions of 10th Muharram-ul-Haram taken out from different parts of the city.
Around midnight last night, the main process of 10th Muharram-ul-Haram was taken out from Nisar Haveli, inside Mochi Gate, which will be concluded at Karbala Gamay Shah this evening, after passing through its traditional route inside the Lahore Walled City.
Thousands of Police Personnel and other law enforcement departments have been deputed on routes of all processions to avoid any untoward incident while CCTV cameras have been installed on the routes of processions especially the main processions.
Meanwhile, a Monitoring Cell is functional at IG Office Lahore to monitor the Muharram-ul-Haram processions.
Similar processions will also be taken in different parts of the province.
In Rawalpindi, the central procession of Ashura will emerge from Colonel Maqbool Imambargah which after passing through its traditional route will culminate at the Qadeemi Imambargah.
In Karachi, Small and big Alam, Zuljinah and Tazia processions were taken out from different parts of the city.
The main procession was brought out from Nishter Park. The procession after passing through its tradition routes terminate at Imam Bargh Hussania Irania Kharadar.
According to administration, vast contingents of police have been deployed on the routes of processions and around Imambargahs to avert any untoward incident.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the main Alam and Zuljinah procession of 10th Muharram taken out from Imam Bargah Alamdar-e Karbala Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar after Jumma prayer.
Mobile phone services have been suspended in provincial metropolis due to security reasons.
Similarly, Alam and Zuljinnah processions are being taken out in Kohat, Bannu, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Parachinar and D.I.Khan.
In Balochistan, the main procession of Alam, Tazia and Zuljinah were taken out from Imambargah Nichari Alam Dar Road in Quetta this morning which will culminate at its destination after Maghrib prayers.
A control room equipped with CCTV cameras has also been set up to monitor procession.
Youm-e-Ashur also observed in Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday.
To pay reverence to supreme sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his companions in Karbala processions are being organized in all three divisions.
In Gilgit, the main Ashur procession will start from Jama Imamia mosque at 8 am which passing through traditional route will culminate in same place at 4:30 pm.
Gilgit-Baltistan administration has made a security plan to ensure the protection of mourners during Ashur processions.
Meanwhile, traffic on Karakorum Highway between Rawalpindi and Gilgit-Baltistan will not be suspended today.
In Lahore, Parachinar, and Thar, mourners donated blood to commemorate the great sacrifices given in the Karbala tragedy.
Phone services are suspended in the major cities of the country as part of security arrangements for the Youm-e-Ashur.
A ban on pillion riding in Karachi was imposed on Muharram 8 and will be lifted on Muharram 10.
